Day Porter/Maintenance

Location:Austin, TX
Salary Range:$11.00/hr

This 30 hour per week position consists of routine work to maintain the cleanliness and event readiness of the Church facilities and grounds.

Duties include cleaning, setup, and maintenance functions for recurring and one-time events.

Regular Schedule:

Sunday 7am - 2pm

Monday-friday 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm.

3 flex hours per week for events, special cleaning or repairs.










Essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Performs building inspections to ensure building security and energy efficiency.Reports the following to the Director of Operations, or designated staff person:

  • Unlocked doors

  • Malfunctioning plumbing, electrical, lights and locks

  • Presence of animals, vermin or insects.

  • Need for cleaning supplies or equipment repair in advance.

  • Water leaks, and other maintenance needs.

  • All other health and safety hazards noticed.

  • Cleans buildings according to an agreed upon schedule by sweeping, dusting, mopping,scrubbing, buffing, washing rooms, vacuuming,washing and disinfecting surfaces, cleaning interior windows and blinds, etc.
  • Readies for Sunday services: driveways swept, sanctuary check-in with staff, classrooms unlocked and lights on, bathrooms freshened before, between and after services, nurseries checked and cleaned.

  • Cleans and sets sanctuary for worship on Friday.

  • Cleans staff restrooms, empties trash and vacuums staff offices daily.

  • All other areas cleaned according to scheduled usage.

  • Sets all rooms for upcoming events/recurring activities and cleans and breaks down after an event/recurring activity. Setup may include preparing coffee and tea/water for all-church events.

  • Performs ground maintenance by sweeping, removing trash, blowing leaves prior to church services, etc.

  • Performs minor maintenance such as replacing light bulbs and fixture ballasts, HVAC air filters, cleans drains, and other small handy issues.

  • Moves and stores furniture, equipment and supplies. Returns supplies to appropriate locations.


  • Refills paper towel, tissue, toilet paper and hand soap in all dispensers.
  • Maintains custodial closets, storage closets
  • Orders and maintains inventory for cleaning supplies, paper goods and kitchen supplies usage.

  • Removes unwanted items and delivers to dumpsters or donation centers.

  • Participates in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as requested.

  • Performs other duties as scheduled and assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:   


  • Working knowledge of cleaning materials and ability to operatecleaning and maintenance equipment.

  • Basic handyman knowledge such changing light bulbs and ballasts, air filters, toilet flappers, clearing clogs and minor repairs to furniture and equipment.

  • Requires extensive walking, moving stooping, pushing, carrying, climbing, bending and lifting up to 40 to 50 lbs.

  • Physical strength to lift and move tables, chairs and small furniture.

  • Knowledge of the English language so as to understand operating instructions for cleaning equipment and

    materials, and safety and accident prevention.

  • Able to read email and an electronic schedule/calendar.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position are required.

  • Authorized to work in the United States
